Kitchen Extract System Cleaning
Grease build up within the extraction system is a common forms a hidden combustion risk and is often the cause of fires in commercial kitchens.
Since January 2006 it has been law that supply and extract systems to food preparation areas must be cleaned. And it is also now a requirement of most insurance companies that all grease extraction and ducting systems are cleaned frequently by an accredited specialist company.
It is very important that the grease extract systems are regularly cleaned to ensure that any fire hazards are removed in compliance with the regulatory reform order. The Health and Safety Executive BSRIA, FPA insurance guidance and regulations stipulate that the kitchen extract systems should be kept clean in order to minimise fire and other risks. The Health & Safety Act 1974 also states that it is the responsibility of the employer to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all of its staff and customers.
Over time, kitchen canopy filters will accumulate a build-up of grease particles which can become baked-on and impossible to remove by normal cleaning methods. This makes the filters less effective at trapping grease, and shortening the life of the fan.
Following the completion of a site visit and assessment of your system, we will establish how often your kitchen extraction system will need to be cleaned to comply with requirements. This will depend on the level of usage of cooking equipment.
FREQUENCY OF CLEANING
Heavy Use (12-16 hours per day) 3 monthly
Moderate Use (6-12 hours per day) 6 monthly
Light Use (2-6 hours per day) 12 monthly

In addition to your extraction system we will assess your ventilation system to make sure the whole system from canopy through to fans and vents is cleaned to the highest standard.
